Several months ago, Grammy-winning producer, Oscar-nominated songwriter, touring musician and studio wizard T Bone Burnett began soliciting recommendations for replacement speakers for the control room of his Electro Magnetic Studios. According to the producer’s longtime engineer/mixer, Mike Piersante, the U.K.-manufactured ATC SCM150ASL Pro reference monitors that Burnett purchased from exclusive U.S. distributor Las Vegas Pro Audio not only fill the room with faithfully accurate sound but also ensure a perfect translation to the mastering studio. “I find them to be…

With their mash-up of ‘80s synth pop and contemporary alt-rock, The Killers continue the’ momentum on 2009’s international jaunt in promotion of Day & Age, the band’s third outing. James Gebhard has enjoyed a lengthy tenure with the band as FOH engineer (and for a time, production manager), stretching back to the “early’“days in 2004 when they headlined club dates and played ensemble radio promo fests. Gebhard, who has also mixed for tours with The Strokes, The Vines, Ladytron, and…

I just scored an incredible deal on eBay. Three Yorkville Elite EX350M loudspeakers. They are primarily a monitor wedge, but they also have a pole cup and can be used as a speaker-on-a-stick. They are a B&C loaded 12” x 1”, and have a nice shallow (as in closer to horizontal) angle that works best with the monitor up close and personal, the way a lot of people like their monitors. How incredible a deal? Try three of them for…

At the 2009 Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim. I traveled the show floor - front-to-back and end-to-end - to see as many new products and talk with as many people as possible. Optimism was the word of the event, particularly among manufacturers truly excited about their new products. (Check out our Photo Gallery from the show!) I saw a lot of creativity, and a lot of usefulness, and a lot of both. There wasn’t one single product that was a…
