Chris Huff 05/17/11 03:21 PM, 1 CommentThis article is provided by Behind The Mixer. In a recent survey, many of you commented on the lack of professionalism you see in your volunteers. So, I wanted to give you something to post in your sound booth…the rules of audio professionalism! 1. Always be early. If you are on time for practice, you are late because people are now waiting for you to set up before they can practice. 2. Inform the tech director/head sound tech if you… View this story

Mike Sessler 05/13/11 09:56 AM, 0 CommentsMost of the time, we’re dealing with non-professional musicians, limited equipment, and tight deadlines. While difficult, it’s not impossible to produce good monitor mixes and a good house mix. In most smaller churches, monitors are mixed from the front of house mixing position. Typically, smaller churches have 16- to 48-channel consoles that have 6 aux sends. On these consoles, aux channels 1 through 4 are pre-fader (or can be set that way with a switch), meaning the main house fader… View this story

Greg DeTogne 05/12/11 01:40 PM, 0 CommentsOn the surface, this spring’s Heart and Soul tour may have seemed an unlikely pairing in its attempt to combine the growling rasp and peacock strut of Rod Stewart with the smoky, stirring lyricism of Stevie Nicks, but in truth the juxtaposition was far from uneven. Playing hit-after-hit in North American venues ranging from Madison Square Garden to the Hollywood Bowl, Stewart proved that his amped-up rock star antics can indeed serve as the perfect foil for Nicks, who did… View this story

Casey Watson 05/12/11 08:20 AM,This article is provided by Church Audio Video. In-ear monitors are finding their way onto the wish list of nearly every church technical director and worship leader these days. But are they the right choice for your ministry? If you can answer “Yes” to any of the following questions, then the answer may well be yes. Does your church suffer from excessive stage noise? Does your sound guy have difficulty establishing a decent mix? Does your… View this story

PSW Staff 05/11/11 11:20 AM, 0 CommentsAs eighties theatre venues go, Salle Albert Rousseau has weathered the ravages of time better than most. It has been well cared for by the citizens of Quebec city, Quebec, Canada and despite self-imposed changes from being principally a classical music venue to the more contemporary multi-purpose centre, it has lost none of its charm or character. Recent revamps have seen the house sound system totally replaced and the stage entirely remodeled to accommodate current trends. Steering that remodeling was… View this story

Karl Winkler 05/11/11 09:56 AM, 0 CommentsTechnology in professional audio (and technology in general) has changed so much and so quickly that it’s become difficult to get up to speed and stay up to date. The learning curve for some aspects of what we do is quite steep and appears to be accelerating. Analog consoles are challenging enough, but the number-crunching digital beasts are even more complex. We hardly used wireless 20 years ago, now it’s everywhere. Outboard effects have become plug-ins, and what were once… View this story

Derek Sexsmith 05/11/11 09:17 AM,This article is provided by Behind The Mixer. Guest Post from Derek Sexsmith The title on this post is a little misleading, as the “perfect mix” could mean different things to different people. But, I think most would agree the foundation for the perfect mix, when mixing a typical “rock” band (drums, bass, guitars, keys, vocals) would be the kick drum and the bass guitar. Robert Scovill, a very experienced and very talented engineer said, at the Gurus of… View this story
