Britannia Row Productions is enjoying a busy autumn and winter season, with its entire Midas digital inventory out on major international tours. Two XL8s continue on Jamiroquai’s world tour, with Rick Pope at front of house and Tristan Farrow on monitors. “Out of all the digital boards that I’ve used in the live environment, the XL8 is sonically by far the best,” says Pope of the XL8. “The definition in one’s mix can only be described as 3-D; I have…

A recently introduced Midas PRO2C digital console handled front of house duties at this year’s Lake of Stars Music Festival on the sandy shores of Lake Malawi, the third biggest lake in Africa. The PRO2 faced extreme temperatures of up to 42 degrees Celsius, an abundance of sand and grit plus a severe fuel crisis, which meant power was only available 30 minutes before the festival opened. “I really love the PRO2C; it was very easy to get to grips…

Although Slayer and Rob Zombie have crossed paths on the road in recent years, the recent Hell on Earth co-headline concert tour of North American arenas and sheds marked the first time the two metal heavyweights have toured together in over a decade. Slayer’s musical style is defined by fast tremolo picking, double bass drumming, and shouted (or chanted) vocals, and they’re recognized as one of the “big four” thrash metal acts, joined by Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. After first…

MUSIC Group is significantly reducing the amount of pages in the user-manuals that come with its pro audio products (Midas, Klark Teknik, Behringer) and musical instruments (Bugera), making a transition from lengthy paper manuals to more eco-friendly Quick Start Guides (QSGs). The more robust manuals that previously shipped with product will still be available online. The new QSG guides will provide the end user with everything they need to get started using a product, and will also include a web…

IPB Audio, headed by Ian Bond, has become one of the first clients to purchase both a new Midas PRO2 and a PRO2C live audio system, introduced at last week’s PLASA 2011 show in London. (See our exclusive first look at the new PRO2/PRO2C.) “I initially saw some drawings, and as usual, gave my feedback to (designer) Alex Cooper,” Bond says. “One of the great things about Midas is that they always listen to people’s opinions. The price of the…

Fine food, drinks, a bonding experience involving crossbows, rifles, and 12-gauge over/under shotguns (accompanied by traditional Pimm’s cocktails) – and the unveiling of two new digital consoles. That was the scene at the Midas pre- PLASA launch of its new PRO2 and PRO2C digital consoles at the New Hall Hotel & Spa in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham in August. Secluded just off the beaten path in England’s West Midlands, New Hall features its own moat, extensive gardens, and other trappings that…
