In a letter to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, NSCA Executive Director Chuck Wilson expressed concern regarding white spaces proceedings and new television bandwidth devices. As recently as August 9, the FCC conducted a test of white spaces devices before and during a Buffalo Bills-Washington Redskins game in Washington D.C. The results showed that the prototypes did not accurately sense wireless microphone signals, a function that would be required to prevent interference. “Our members are alarmed by preliminary public reports about… View this story

A number of leading Nashville-based music interests told the Federal Communications Commission today that allowing millions of wireless devices to operate in the same spectrum as wireless microphones without failsafe protections would be a “catastrophe.” United in one voice, the music interests said they are “disturbed” by manufacturers who are anxious to produce new television white space devices and, in the process, are pushing the FCC to “discount – even overlook” the poor performance prototype technology platforms have had in… View this story

Northland Church – a church distributed – is viewed by staff and congregation members alike as a “church of the future.” The purpose-built 160,000 square-foot main campus in Longwood, Florida hosts more than 8,000 congregation members during five weekend services. Simultaneously, multi-sites in Mount Dora, Oviedo, and West Oaks, Florida, bring the word of Pastor Joel Hunter to thousands of other Christians through a high-capacity metro Ethernet. “The church exists to link churches and other organizations with the same mission,”… View this story

Camelback SDA in Phoenix is one of the latest churches to enjoy the sonic control and intelligibility of EV’s super-compact XLD line array system, thanks to a recent installation by House of Worship audio experts GJM for Sound Advice (Placerville, CA). Greg Mace of GJM spec’d an input-to-output EV system, also featuring P3000RL amplifiers (running IRIS-Net™ control and supervision software) and REV wireless microphone systems. “The church wanted to upgrade their system to accommodate larger touring Christian acts,” says Mace,… View this story

Certain things in “Americana” are indelibly classic: Coca-Cola, the ’57 Chevy, John Wayne, Route 66, Drive-In Movies, and the Golden Gate Bridge. And, it can be persuasively argued, Shure also belongs on that list. The company’s history exemplifies the much-documented American success story we never get tired of hearing: one person with a dream, overcoming considerable odds with little more than courage and moxie to create a thriving empire that’s touched many of our lives through the decades. Fortunately, like… View this story

My current assignment has found me behind a monitor console once again. It’s been a while since I stage-mixed on a regular basis, so I am enjoying the change of scenery. But this end of the snake presents a very different challenge from a FOH mix, or a system engineering position. Here, the fruits of my labors are not intended for the masses. They are tailored to specific individuals and each of his or her needs, wants, desires… and idiosyncrasies.… View this story
