Broadcast groups and networks have filed an Emergency Request (pdf) with the FCC urging the agency to follow its own standard practice and seek comment on a technical report released last week by the Commission’s Office of Engineering and Technology. The report, which details interference test data for several prototype ‘white space’ devices, contains findings conclusively demonstrating that unlicensed devices relying solely on spectrum sensing threaten the viability of clear TV reception. “Simply put, until two days ago, it has… View this story

In a letter to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, NSCA Executive Director Chuck Wilson expressed concern regarding white spaces proceedings and new television bandwidth devices. As recently as August 9, the FCC conducted a test of white spaces devices before and during a Buffalo Bills-Washington Redskins game in Washington D.C. The results showed that the prototypes did not accurately sense wireless microphone signals, a function that would be required to prevent interference. “Our members are alarmed by preliminary public reports about… View this story

A number of leading Nashville-based music interests told the Federal Communications Commission today that allowing millions of wireless devices to operate in the same spectrum as wireless microphones without failsafe protections would be a “catastrophe.” United in one voice, the music interests said they are “disturbed” by manufacturers who are anxious to produce new television white space devices and, in the process, are pushing the FCC to “discount – even overlook” the poor performance prototype technology platforms have had in… View this story

Simultaneously, multi-sites in Mount Dora, Oviedo, and West Oaks, Florida, bring the word of Pastor Joel Hunter to thousands of other Christians through a high-capacity metro Ethernet. “The church exists to link churches and other organizations with the same mission,”… View this story

Variable polar patterns can actually be good for several things. Before we go into them, we should probably briefly discuss what the main polar patterns are. The three “main” polar patterns are cardioid (or unidirectional), figure-eight (or bidirectional), and omnidirectional. In a nutshell a cardioid microphone picks up sound from the “front” only. A figure-eight microphone picks up sound from the front and rear of the microphone. An omnidirectional microphone picks up sound from all around. There are also a… View this story

Camelback SDA in Phoenix is one of the latest churches to enjoy the sonic control and intelligibility of EV’s super-compact XLD line array system, thanks to a recent installation by House of Worship audio experts GJM for Sound Advice (Placerville, CA). Greg Mace of GJM spec’d an input-to-output EV system, also featuring P3000RL amplifiers (running IRIS-Net™ control and supervision software) and REV wireless microphone systems. “The church wanted to upgrade their system to accommodate larger touring Christian acts,” says Mace,… View this story
