In the not-too-distant past, professional touring systems consisted of two or three remotely located consoles, tied to a combination of low-level passive or dynamic input sources (along with some active or phantom-powered inputs), connected by long lengths of multicore snakes, through a system of transformer-isolated or (yikes) passive hard-wired splitters. Founded in 1941 as the Plaza Movie Theater, this proud old theater has been a San Marcos landmark for decades, doing stints as a live theater, cinema, restaurant and live music venue. In the early days of our industry, equipment was made to serve the user’s needs. Many of the original studio owners came from a radio background. They built their own equipment, from consoles to compressors to equalizers, etc. They didn’t have cost-effective manufacturing in mind when they created this equipment.
