Opened in 1975, Arizona’s Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts (SCPA) has long been a cultural oasis in the greater Phoenix area, presenting some 200 dance, music, drama, and lecture events per year. The largest performance hall at the complex is the 850-seat Virginia C. Piper Theater, a fully-equipped professional theater space. After well over three decades in service, the theater recently underwent extensive renovation, including re-raking the auditorium and adding box seating along the sides. The improvements also included… View this story

A quarter of a century ago, Salt Lake City’s Hale Centre Theatre staged its first production in an old lingerie factory for a paid audience of barely two dozen people. Since then, things have certainly changed for the non-profit community theatre, which today stages productions in its 42,000-square-foot West Valley City facility and has welcomed no less than 3.5 million patrons through its doors. Although the octagonal, 610-seat theatre is state-of-the-art in most respects—including its unique circular moving stage and… View this story

Canadian based loudspeaker manufacturer, Adamson Systems Engineering, is expanding its presence in Europe with the addition of two new employees to its Hamburg based European Headquarters.  A key influence over the expansion, is the desire to move towards direct business in Germany.  As Adamson GmbH expand their operations in Germany, it has become obvious to both Adamson, and former distribution partner Trius Vertrieb GmbH, that direct sales and support would best serve Adamson in both, Germany and Austria. “Most of… View this story

The Outline GTO large format line array made the loudest “quiet” debut of any product in the company’s 37-year history at the Mile High Music Festival, August 14 and 15, 2010 in Denver, Colorado and with the recent Peter Gabriel “New Blood” tour. Although tensions heated up during the daytime sessions of the recent 2010 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Cancun, Mexico, UN delegates from more than 30 countries, along with the general public, were able to chill out at the free nightly “Singing for the Planet” outdoor music festival staged at Villa de Cambio Climatico (Climate Change Village). To accommodate the daily crowds of more than 10,000 visitors from November 27 through December 11, Mexico City-based production company CREA supplied a… View this story

With a full television crew recording his every move, and ‘meet and greet’ packages at every show, singer/songwriter/showman Peter André’s big arena tour this December would not make life easy for the production company. For Mark ‘Knocker’ Neil’s sound and lighting company Production Hire, the budget thrown at the stage and set design for this extravagant show could hardly have been more generous, as he rigged three different Martin Audio line array systems scalable to the different venue capacities. At… View this story

First opened to the public in 1928, Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia has a long history as home to the Atalanta and Albinoleffe football teams. With a seating capacity of 24,726, the field is 120 meters long and 70 meters wide with grandstand seating that is only partially covered. Sound reinforcement was, until recently, a sore subject for attendees of the aging stadium’s various events. As part of planned refurbishments, that issue has now been rectified—thanks to an ambitious new sound… View this story

While line source loudspeakers have been around for more than 50 years, they’ve experienced a renaissance over the past decade, largely due to significant design advances that include digitally steerable models with individual amplification, delay and EQ for each driver, allowing the column’s vertical coverage to be tilted down (or up) and focused for short or long throws. Most often, both passive and active line sources are deployed in reverberant spaces, where their controlled coverage and coherent sound in the… View this story
