The band I regularly mix is based on the east coast of Florida, and we often find ourselves playing in clubs right on the beach. Unfortunately, in most of them, the stage is an afterthought or built for duos and trios, and most certainly not for a five-piece rock band with all of the gear, wedges and so on. While the stages are small, the clubs themselves usually are not, requiring a full-range house PA - with everything running through… View this story

Picture Miami/Fort Lauderdale in the ‘70s: small and quiet, lots of birds, flowers and trees. Lots of artists too. There were loads of clubs and hotels to gig at, and the whole area was an inexpensive place to live with a great climate. As a community of players, we shared ideas and band gigs, and had a great time musically and socially. Three natives of Fort Lauderdale had a trio called “Woodchuck” who played Hammond B3, guitar and drums. They… View this story

It’s a Monday afternoon and I get a phone call from a local production company to work a press event the following day at a local race track (local being an hour and half away). I accept the gig and the next day hop on my bike (the motor-driven type) and go to the track, and specifically, the large circus-type tent where the event is being staged. No equipment truck in sight. A quick phone call to my contact confirms… View this story
