When it comes to broadband AV, it’s optical fiber all the way for Hillsdale College in Michigan. The independent private college started running high-speed, secure optical fiber across its indoor track using audio optical technology by FiberPlex Technologies last May and is now gearing up for another, longer optical run that will shuttle multimedia across its campus.  In the next few months, the college will roll out a FiberPlex WDM-16 multiplexer into existing fiber strands for moving large multimedia files… View this story

It was a double pass for optical fiber at Sunday’s NFL Pro Bowl game at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu. Copper cabling took a beating due to excessive moisture buildup from the rain.  “The issue with copper wasn’t noise for a change, it was water,” said Jeff Kang with Custom Audio, Kaneohe, Hawaii, which has been providing sound reinforcement for Pro Bowl for over 10 years. Fortunately, this year, Kang had contacted FiberPlex Technologies about a MADI-to-optic conversion box for his… View this story

An impromptu “plugfest” involving a new FiberPlex converter box earlier this month at the Las Vegas labs of top AV integrator AVDB Group solved a recurring problem with the growing number of platforms using the IEEE AVB set of protocols for AV streaming. “We needed a solution for the 100-meter (cable) limitation for our larger projects, which as you can expect of Las Vegas, is about as big as they get,” explained Bob Langlois, the general manager for AVDB Group’s… View this story

Howard High School’s music department started the school year with an unsuual marching band program that combines brass and drums with guitars and keyboards, thanks to fiber optic connectivity by FiberPlex Technologies. “We’re reinvigorating the traditional scholastic music program and mixing in contemporary music with the marching band,” explained Christopher Campbell, Band Director for Howard High School, Ellicott City. Howard High School recently added to its band program a complete synth ensemble – all able to chime in live and… View this story

Debuting at InfoComm 2013, FiberPlex Technologies introduces the Live Production Toolbox, which includes everything needed to easily connect remote cameras, microphones, and other equipment over fiber optic cable regardless of media type or data format.  “Fiber is really the only contender when it comes to transporting information like high-bandwidth 3G or 6G-UHD video, audio, lighting control, etc., because it is high capacity and noise-free from mile one to mile 99,” says Kyle Rosenbloom of FiberPlex. “The difficulty until now has… View this story

    PSW Staff 04/27/12 04:51 PM,
FiberPlex Technologies has released the WDM16, a 16-channel active wave division multiplexer that does not require optical wavelength matching, which allows users to use standard off the shelf equipment without worrying about having to have equipment operating at specific wavelengths.  The WDM16 provides (16) Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) ports that can be loaded with any sort of optical laser of any speed or mode. The WDM16 allocates the individual wavelengths for the CWDM by taking each input in (from… View this story

Many professional audio manufacturers are now actively producing their own proprietary network connection and control systems, thus enabling users to create and control products within the audio chain. While not a particularly new concept (Crown, for example, started the trend in the 1990s with the IQ computer control system for its amplifiers), recent years have seen a plethora of new solutions. Therefore, to partner this article on interconnection options, here’s a brief overview on the control and distribution solutions currently… View this story
