But the stuff coming out of the factories - and even a lot of the proprietary (home brew) gear - is light years beyond the stuff we all got stuck with in the past. A not-so-famous…

While not a particularly new concept (Crown, for example, started the trend in the 1990s with the IQ computer control system for its amplifiers), recent years have seen a plethora of new solutions. Therefore, to partner this article on interconnection options, here’s a brief overview on the control and distribution solutions currently…

How to Prevent The Preventable… Sunday morning, 9:34 am: You’ve just made it through a solo vocalist performance - she was using a wireless microphone system. No problems yet, and you’ve just finished up the last “tricky part” of your sound work for the service. It should be all downhill from here… The congregational prayer is underway, and you’ve joined in. The pastor is readying to deliver his message, and he’s wearing one of the other wireless systems, this one…

When faced with a need for either a significant improvement to an existing sound system or an entirely new sound system, the most often-heard advise is “hire a qualified consultant.” Or at least it should be. But many churches balk at the notion of paying a fee to a professional to help with sound system needs. The thinking: this is not money well spent because there always seems to be “someone” in the congregation confident in his own abilities to…

Provided by Sweetwater. Q: Hi! I’m an intern at Studio Name Omitted and I have a question for you. I love the way a rack of gear looks all lit up, but every so often there are these open spaces. It seems to me like we’d save a lot of space if we got rid of the blank spaces and condensed the racks. Are these spaces important or something? A: As you mention, there is a temptation, with an…

It was a true British invasion of audio equipment when Las Vegas, NV-based group The Killers recently toured North America, with primary sound reinforcement equipment coming from Martin Audio and DiGiCo. Delicate Productions of Camarillo, CA provided equipment for the U.S. leg of the tour, also working with British sound company Capital Sound, a partnership that sees both companies working together on two continents. Alan Behr, Audio Crew Chief and Delicate Productions employee, explains, “We have a very similar inventory.…

CAD Professional Microphones and Astatic Commercial Audio Products are re-branding as CAD Audio to expand the company’s product offerings across several markets, optimize the efficiencies of its sales and distribution channels, and streamline its marketing, PR and promotional efforts. The company’s original roots can be traced back to the Astatic Corporation, established in 1931 in Conneaut, Ohio by two radio engineers dedicated to the development of a static-free or “Astatic” microphone. The company evolved into Astatic Commercial Audio products, which…
