At the 2009 Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim. I traveled the show floor - front-to-back and end-to-end - to see as many new products and talk with as many people as possible. Optimism was the word of the event, particularly among manufacturers truly excited about their new products. (Check out our Photo Gallery from the show!) I saw a lot of creativity, and a lot of usefulness, and a lot of both. There wasn’t one single product that was a…

The new Electro-Voice N8000-1500 audio signal processor expands the NetMax platform even further. At the heart of the N8000-1500 is the new DSP-2 engine, composed of three dual-core processors that expand the total processing power of the N8000-1500 to 1500 MIPS. The unique modular nature of NetMax means that each input or output card added to a chassis provides an additional DSP engine and another 100 MIPS of processing power. As a result, a fully loaded chassis provides 1900 MIPS…

The new Electro-Voice DC-One digital loudspeaker system controller is designed primarily for users of small- to medium-sized sound systems in both mobile and installed applications. Based on a two-in-six topology, it is 100% compatible with all settings from other Electro-Voice signal processors, including the Dx38. Though free PC-Editor software is available, the DC-One can easily be operated via the front panel. Direct access buttons, six predefined configuration modes (one being free configuration), straightforward output delay settings, and true professional metering…

For the fifth consecutive year, Texas-based LD Systems traveled to Las Vegas in December for the annual Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR), a 10-day event that many consider the “Super Bowl” of rodeo now celebrating its 49th anniversary. LD has partnered with the WNFR since 2004 as the event’s exclusive light and stage producer. 2007 marked the first year that LD also supplied sound reinforcement for the event. Last year, LD used an Electro-Voice XLC rig to provide smooth, intelligible…

In 1976, I was hired on the local crew to pitch and bail scaffolding and deck for my first stadium show at the historic Comiskey Park in Chicago. It was a July 8 truck tip and the day of the show was July 10. The temperature hovered around 100 degrees for the duration. We erected the monster in the left center field bleachers over the seats where Babe Ruth and Nellie Fox used to tear the hides off of well-greased…

Performance Audio of Salt Lake City recently installed a new Electro-Voice XLC sound system at Energy Solutions Arena. The 20,500 seat arena is home to the NBA’s Utah Jazz, and is the region’s major concert venue—Reba McIntire and Kelly Clarkson were the first to perform alongside the new system. “This was a team effort,” says Craig Hylton of Performance Audio; “we worked closely with Monte Wise, Dave Larsen, George Georgallis, and Robert Deyarmond of EV every step of the way…

The world listened as President-elect Barack Obama delivered his historic acceptance speech to nearly a quarter million jubilant supporters at Chicago’s Grant Park. Thanks to a superb sound system design and deployment by CLAIR Chicago, every word was heard clearly via an Electro-Voice X-Line PA and Midas mixing consoles. Prior to receiving its historic weight, the rally at Grant Park proved to be an enormous and challenging event to cover. Ian Hunt, Director of Event Management for CLAIR Chicago, recalls…
