Powersoft has announced the introduction of M Series DSP+ETH power amplifiers outfitted with 24-bit/48 kHz AD/DA converters with 56-bit for internal processing. With two inputs and outputs each for the 2-channel version and four inputs and outputs each for the 4-channel version, the system offers per channel five bi-quad filters for system equalization, eliminating the need for outboard equalizers, plus two crossovers and eight bi-quad filters. Each channel has dual dynamic processors with arbitrary input/output curve and adjustable time constants.…

While sound system operators have come to enjoy the considerable benefits of digital signal processing, it’s important to understand how these devices truly interact with loudspeakers. There’s a lot of cause and effect that sometimes gets overlooked, resulting in less than optimum performance, and leaving the operator scratching his head as to what’s going wrong. One particularly important aspect that is often overlooked is using a DSP to drive loudspeakers with a manufacturer’s prescribed settings (or other target drive function).…

This article is provided by Rane Corporation. (Click here to read part 1, focusing on crossovers, and click here to read part 2, addressing equalizers. Dynamic controllers or processors represent a class of signal processing devices used to alter an audio signal based solely upon its frequency content and amplitude level, thus the term “dynamic” since the processing is completely program dependent. The two most common dynamic effects are compressors and expanders, with limiters and noise gates (or just…

Moderator: Welcome everyone to tonight’s PSW Live Chat session with Bruce Jackson, coming to you live from Santa Monica, CA. Or is that a state secret? Welcome Bruce! Bruce: Thanks Keith! Moderator: I’ll kick things off. You seem like a really smart guy… how did you ever end up working in pro audio? Bruce: The tough questions first… I didn’t know any better, when I was 18. Moderator: Ah, being young and… well, being young :>) Bruce: With my lighting…

INTRODUCTION TO THE LAKE CONTOUR by Bruce Jackson In 1997, I approached Roy and Troy Clair with an idea for a new digital solution that I believed could, if pursued, put Clair Bros ahead of their competition. One thing I was bringing to the project was a history of developing products in the lab combined with decades of live sound mixing experience. And, my long relationship with Roy and Troy, dating back to 1970 when I sold my sound company…

Midas and Klark Teknik have brought U.K. product distributorship in house, with Rob Hughes, previously employed by Shuttlesound to handle the brands, joining Midas and Klark Teknik to continue his role as U.K. sales consultant. “With the U.K. being one of the most influential markets in concert touring, it warrants direct access to the factory,” says Hughes. “With this move, U.K. customers will have the direct support of not only me, but also Karl Brant and his service team, technical…
