If jazz music is epitomized by freedom of expression then the VIP Jazz Club in Zagreb is better placed than most to understand that concept. Located on Bana Jelacica square situated in downtown Zagreb, the square is significant for being the cradle of Croatian independence. The club itself is comparable in size to the venerable Ronnie Scott’s in London and indeed hosts a similar range of recognized international jazz artists. Like Scott’s it also boasts a d&b audiotechnik sound system.…

Quakenbrueck,a small idyllic town on the Hase River in Lower Saxony, Germany, has played host to The Artland Bicycle Music Festival for the last two years. This year they did something different. Power was literally in the hands (or rather, the feet) of the spectators. Working with d&b audiotechnik, the festival organizers created a sound system that was bicycle-powered. “We take audience participation to a whole new level,” explains Bob Giddens, member of The Artland Country Club Band and one…

The Rose Theatre in Brampton, Ontario, is a confident combination of glass and brick that boldly reflects the city’s pride. When it opened in 2006, the theatre came equipped with a brand new loudspeaker system but, as technical coordinator Trevor Nash explains, all was not rosy in the garden. “Plans on paper don’t always successfully translate into real world situations,” Nash says. “There were coverage issues in several areas of the auditorium. Although adding ground stacked subwoofers and 2-way cabinets…

d&b audiotechnik has announced several new updates for its ArrayCalc simulation software, R1 Remote control software and the R10 Service software, as well as a firmware update for the E-PAC amplifier. The new d&b ArrayCalc V6.7 software, available in March 2012, will contain the d&b R1 Remote control software’s export function, which removes the original copy and pasting process of the amplifier settings from the simulation software ArrayCalc to the R1 Remote control software. It also automatically generates a workspace…

St Paul’s Methodist Episcopal Church (presently known as St Paul’s United Methodist Church) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa is listed on the United State’s National Register of Historic Places and is essentially the work of architect Louis Sullivan, the so-called “father of skyscrapers.” Sullivan’s aspirations however, were high, beyond what the church’s congregation could reasonably afford back in 1912. The restraint exercised back then by architect W.C. Jones, when he re-drew Sullivan’s plans under instruction from the church, meant that two…

The d&b audiotechnik E-Series comprises some of the smallest loudspeakers within the company’s Black range of products, with the series now joined by the new E4 and E5 loudspeakers that are even smaller than the recently launched E6. The two-way E4 and E5 have a coaxially mounted wide dispersion dome tweeter and a built-in passive crossover network. They offer wide symmetrical dispersion patterns in the horizontal and vertical plane, while the cabinet may be mounted in either attitude. The E5…

Push the point hard enough and consolidation is inevitable; that’s the premise presented to production manager Simon Foster as he prepared to take the revitalized Pixies around North America once more. “We had already confirmed the LED video and lighting parts of the tour,” says Craig Mitchell, “when I learned the band’s preference was for a d&b audiotechnik PA system, I suggested we provide sound as well.” Mitchell handles touring sales at Florida-based LMG, a company with a long and…
