When Elation Professional introduced its groundbreaking Platinum Beam 5R last year, the ultra-bright, compact, extreme ACL beam effect quickly became a favorite of lighting designers, appearing everywhere from high-profile events like Super Bowl XLVI Village and the 2012 Southern Baptist Convention, to major concert productions like Drake’s Club Paradise Tour, to world-class nightclubs such as New City Gas in Montreal. Now Elation has taken this popular moving head beam to its next stage of evolution with the new Platinum Beam…

When FOH engineer Darwin Tillery goes out on a fly date for clients like Sheila E, New Edition, or Brian McKnight, he doesn’t worry about what console he might encounter at the gig. “I literally just carry mine with me,” he says. “I have the Allen & Heath R72 rack-mount console with the iDR48 MixRack. They both qualify as carry-ons, so I’m basically carrying a 48-channel digital console onto the plane.” The compact iLive R72 is a work surface…

DiGiCo’s very first SD11 console has made its debut in the field - and on the road - with Staind founder and frontman Aaron Lewis. Out in support of his debut country-tinged solo album, Town Line, released in March 2011, the stripped-down tour features Lewis in an acoustic duo setting on sold-out stages ranging from headlining 700-seat casinos, churches and honky-tonks, to playing opening slots on 50,000-seat arena and festival bills. Long-time DiGiCo user Clay Hutson - who’s wearing multiple…

As with all sizes of modular line array enclosures there are several designs in the “mini” genre, which we define as those with 7-inch “woofers”. The simplest two-way systems have a single cone driver and a high-frequency driver, side by each. Some employ dual woofers, and those with a center high-frequency section that provides horizontal symmetry. Quasi-three-way solutions use dual woofers, but cross one over earlier, so the other is the single source of mid-range, eliminating cancellations. True three-way designs…

At the 2010 Winter NAMM show, ISP Technologies highlighted the recently released HDL 3112, a three-way, small-format, self-powered line array system incorporating three high-frequency drivers with neodymium magnets and 1.75-inch non-metallic diaphragms that deliver a smooth, pleasant high-frequency signature. A large-format mid-range compression driver covers the upper MF band, eliminating the “cone breakup” of typical cone drivers, enhancing clarity and dynamics. A single 12-inch neodymium driver handles LF, with all three sections driven by proprietary high current DCAT amplification (800…

At the 2010 Winter NAMM show, QSC Audio highlighted its new K Series line of compact, lightweight, high-performance powered loudspeakers. K Series loudspeakers combine a molded ABS enclosure, uniformly matched drivers, advanced DSP, and QSC’s touring spec amplification. The same 1,000-watt Class D amplifier module powers all four models - whether the K8, K10, K12 - or KSub (dual-12-inch subwoofer). QSC Director of Entertainer Solutions Ray van Straten states, “The K Series has been designed entirely without compromise, from the…

ADAM Audio has introduced the A5/Sub7 loudspeaker system for home, studio and desktop computer applications, and will be showcasing it at the upcoming Winter NAMM show in January (2010) in Anaheim. The compact A5 uses the same ADAM proprietary transducer technology (ART) and the same woofer sandwich construction of carbon fiber and Rohacell as the larger A7 monitor. Built-in amplifiers in the A5 with 2 x 25-watt powering capability control the drivers directly. A panel on the rear side features…
