This season’s NBA All-Star Weekend, which included “rising stars” contests, a slam dunk contest, and similar events in the run up to Sunday night’s big game, took place at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. As they did last year, NBA Entertainment entrusted Wireless First/Clair Global with the monumental task of (1) handling wired and wireless audio for all of the performers and events and (2) delivering it to the house and to the broadcast feeds, in addition to providing…

The NHL Winter Classic on New Year’s Day, held at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, had the hometown Flyers playing the New York Rangers before a crowd of 47,000, in addition to a television audience on NBC. Clair Global provided house sound and a broadcast mix for the between-period performances by The Roots, using three unique solutions: mobile loudspeaker carts that allowed the line arrays to be lowered and flipped out of site lines as needed; custom modular diffusion/absorption panels…

The annual ceremony for lighting the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree in late November had Wireless First, a Clair Global company, wrangling 86 channels of wireless that spanned a full city block. The successful Wireless First package included the new CF 1090 Fractal Antenna, designed and manufactured by Wireless First/Clair Global and employing a self-similar antenna topology to deliver high gain across a wide, uniform coverage pattern using a small, camera-friendly housing. “We had multiple stages all over the plaza, and…

Clair Global has introducied the CF 1090 Fractal Antenna for live entertainment applications worldwide. The creation of the CF 1090 is a study in guided serendipity. In the summer of 2010, Clair Global acquired Wireless First. Both the company’s founder, Kevin Sanford and his chief engineer Josh Flower had been working on a new wireless antenna in their shop for several years. Now, as part of the Clair team, they moved quickly to take advantage of Clair’s resources. The final…

The story of Clair Brothers starts in 1954, when a grocer decided to purchase a PA system as a Christmas gift for his two sons, Gene and Roy Clair. “He had no knowledge of electronics or anything!” exclaimed Roy Clair of the extremely unusual present. “I like to think my father was ‘Clair’-voyent in choosing this as a gift.” The two brothers enjoyed using their PA to provide sound reinforcement for local dances, Easter egg hunts, etc.“The PA bug had…

As the market shifts toward offering customers more affordable analog mixing solutions, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems has announced that it will cease worldwide production of the PM5000 sound reinforcement console. The final production model has been purchased by Clair Global (Lititz, Pa.). “The Yamaha PM5000 is an ideal transitional product in that it combines a familiar interface with elements of analog and digital,” says Clair president, Troy Clair. “It is also a great transitional tool for engineers who may not…

Touring in support of their latest album release, 21st Century Breakdown, Berkeley-based band Green Day crossed North America for several months this past summer, with Clair Global provided the sound reinforcement system, which was under the direction of System Engineer/Crew Chief Jason Vrobel. “We’re using Clair’s I-5s with I-5Bs beside them,” explained Vrobel. Clair I-3s are used for side hangs, with BT-218 sub-bass cabinets. “Initially we tried hanging the BT-218’s, but it simply wasn’t happening. It was affecting the main…
