A century later, the church’s original parish hall is surrounded by a burgeoning campus that includes a magnificent church, an historic rectory, a Frank Lloyd Wright style convent, and state-of-the-art school facilities that serve students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The church is a grand, stately stone building with soaring 50-foot ceilings and classic Old World style marble tracery. As with many older sanctuaries, its classic architecture was designed for majestic organ and choir sound, with spoken word intelligibility a…

Provided by Sweetwater. Q: We’re starting to have some contemporary music at my church and I’m helping with the sound. For our sound system we’re using a regular stage setup with speakers on stands. Everything is working ok so far but I had a question about monitors. Is it true that placing smaller PA speakers behind the main speakers facing the worship team a better solution than using floor monitors? A: In the simplest terms, no. Properly placed floor…

Highland Park United Methodist Church (HPUMC) at Southern Methodist University (SMU), which dates back to 1916, has recently undergone a major renovation that includes a new pipe organ, sanctuary refurbishment and Renkus-Heinz Iconyx Digitally Steerable Array loudspeakers, specified by Kirkegaard & Associates and installed by Clair Brothers Systems. When residents of the surrounding Highland Park neighborhood agreed to join the congregation, SMU deeded the land for the church and worshippers began meeting in a temporary structure known as the “Little…

Parishioners founded Saint Stephen Catholic Church in 1847 on the outskirts of what was then the frontier town of Milwaukee in the Wisconsin Territory. Its first church survived until 1927, when a fire burned it to the ground, and its second church served the community from that time until the close of 2009. In time for Christmas, Saint Stephen moved into a brand new structure that perfectly blends the rich aesthetic of its earlier buildings with a range of modern…

Who is soundcheck for, anyway? Sounds like a silly question, at least until you start talking with the worship teams and tech crews at a lot of churches. Then the realization begins that in fact there are some different perspectives floating around out there. From my perspective as an audio engineer, soundcheck is not the process of setting up the microphones or making sure that everything is working properly, and it’s not a time for the worship team to rehearse…

The Lampifier Company has introduced a series of wired microphones which include a phantom-powered audio-enhancing processor located inside the microphone body. The programmable sound processor optimizes the microphone for various applications such as Concert Vocals, Speech, Acoustic Guitar, and Instrument Amplifier. No extra patch cables or outboard sound processors are required for this processing. The company states that to access convenient sound processing “just plug in and play.” The internal processor enables the microphone to deliver a polished, professional sound…

Harvest Church recognized the importance of a quality sound reinforcement system and planned for it right from the design phase of their new sanctuary. Dating as far back as 2005, architectural considerations accounted for essentials such as support weight for the loudspeakers, conduit, electrical requirements, and related issues so as to ensure nothing was overlooked. Greenville, NC-based Hi-Tech Electronics, a design/build firm with a focus on the commercial and House of Worship installation markets, was contracted to handle the implementation…

Allstar Show Industries recently completed a design/build installation for Beulah Ministries in Edmonton on both their main and satellite campus. Aviom’s Pro16 digital snake and personal mixing system, supplied by Coda Audio Services, is helping to bring versatility and lower stage volumes to the worship services at the newly constructed Bartley Christian Church sanctuary in Singapore. As part of a new construction effort to accommodate an ever-expanding congregation, Bartley Christian Church in Singapore employed PAVE Systems as systems integrators to help update its audio system. With plans for the new sanctuary to seat up to 1,200, but with attendance for…
