Energy Transformation Systems (ETS) introduces its new AES/EBU digital audio adapters. Model PA851 (Female XLR) and model PA850 (Male XLR) allow transmission of AES/EBU digital audio signals up to 100 meters over Cat5 UTP The exclusive ETS digital audio adapter (PA850 Series) is impedance-matched, balanced and isolated to provide AES/EBU signals over Cat5 or better unshielded twisted pair wiring. Testing has shown the signal performance over UTP is equal to that of 110 ohm single shielded twisted pair wire even… View this story

What is impedance? Impedance is the AC (alternating current) version of the DC (direct current) term resistance, which is the opposition to electron current flow in a circuit and is expressed in ohms. Impedance (often abbreviated as “Z”) includes capactive reactance and inductive reactance in addition to simple DC resistance. Reactance depends upon the frequency of the signal flowing in the circuit. Capactive reactance increases as frequency decreases: inductive reactance increases as frequency increases. Because of this frequency dependence, impedance… View this story

Penn Elcom recently completed the design and installation of a wiring infrastructure for a new recording studio in Hasting for songwriter/producer Paul Godfrey, creator of the trio, Morcheeba. The installation, within an old Methodist Church building in the heart of the town, entailed delivering all the multicores, cables, stage boxes, patch bays, wall racks plus associated metalwork, and was overseen by Penn’s Leon Whipp who heads the company’s specialist wiring division. The building has been utilized meaningfully in the conversion… View this story

Radial Engineering announces the Radial Catapult is now shipping. The Catapult is a 4-channel audio snake that lets you send analog and AES digital audio signals over standard Cat 5 shielded twisted pair cable. This enables system contractors to take advantage of pre-wired networks to connect one room to another and allows stage techs to take advantage of the relatively low cost of this abundantly available cable for return snakes or for transporting channels of balanced audio across a large… View this story

    signal levels
    Peter Janis 05/31/16 05:59 AM,
Today’s live stage productions have become tremendously complex. All sorts of different instruments and electronic sources must be “orchestrated” along side the microphones and signals that need to be split off to a multitude of mixers to feed the house system, stage monitors, in-ear monitors, broadcast truck, Internet uplink and recording system. Paramount to the design is trying to insure some form of simplicity or standardization that will allow quick changes should disaster occur. In fact, even with today’s most… View this story
