Do you find yourself constantly putting out fires, using duct tape and tin foil solutions, and never quite hitting the mark? Our senses were given to us to help us exist in a physical universe. They are transducers that allow physical stimuli to be converted into a form recognized by the brain. We are bombarded with stimuli every waking moment, and our brains are continuously processing the information to help us function in our environment. Of…

Have you ever wondered why some recording artists and producers are more successful in the studio at accomplishing their goals than other people who are equally or more musically talented? As a recording engineer, here’s what I’ve noticed about successful people in the studio. Vision I’ve found successful people come in all personality types from the very shy and soft-spoken to the boisterous extrovert but they all share a common trait: they have a very specific “vision” of their songs…

When faced with a need for either a significant improvement to an existing sound system or an entirely new sound system, the most often-heard advise is “hire a qualified consultant.” Or at least it should be. But many churches balk at the notion of paying a fee to a professional to help with sound system needs. The thinking: this is not money well spent because there always seems to be “someone” in the congregation confident in his own abilities to…

Eighth Day Sound recently did double-duty on two major events, the Hot 97 Summer Jam at Giants Stadium in New York, and then moving south to the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Tennessee. In both cases, the Highland Heights, Ohio-based sound reinforcement company provided four DiGiCo SD8 digital mixing consoles. At the annual Hot 97 Summer Jam, Eighth Day supported all acts, including Mary J. Blige, Jadakiss, T-Pain, Young Jeezy and Elephant Man, while at Bonnaroo, they handled the…

With three other successful clubs in Chicago’s Wrigleyville and Lincoln Park neighborhoods, the owners of the new John Barleycorn in Schaumburg, a suburb of Chicago, wanted to take it up several notches and offer their patrons the very best of everything.
