OPTOCORE Presents Two New Signal Converter Devices

The X6R and V3R can be seamlessly integrated into the OPTOCORE Optical Digital Network System

At the 2009 Prolight+Sound - Musikmesse in Frankfurt, OPTOCORE introduced the X6R and V3R, two new signal converter devices, both housed in 1U enclosures.

The 16-channel X6R offers flexibility with two card slots on the back panel that can be equipped with five different card types. It converts analog signals (16 inputs, 16 outputs, 8 inputs and 8 outputs, dual microphone inputs with two independent adjustable gains) to AES/EBU or it can serve as a sample rate converter for AES3 input signals, at sample rates up to 192 kHz.

The V3R offers one card slot for eight channels on the back panel and is ideal as an analog input or output satellite if no more than eight channels are required.

Five card types are available:
• 8 mic inputs
• 8 line inputs
• 8 line outputs
• 8 mic inputs with two independent preamps each
• 8 AES/EBU inputs with sample rate converters

The devices are especially designed for rack-mounted applications and permanent installation. All cards are equipped with Phoenix connectors.

The X6R and V3R can be seamlessly integrated into the OPTOCORE Optical Digital Network System.

All parameters of the converters can be remote controlled and monitored with the OPTOCORE Control software application. High quality preamps and A/D and D/A converters make the X6R and V3R units ideal for the incorporation into audio systems even if no OPTOCORE network is established.

The X6R with the dual microphone input card relieves all front of house and monitor engineers of the decision about the control of the microphone preamps. Every microphone input incorporates two independent microphone preamps and both can be adjusted individually. Different sample rates of devices with AES3 outputs are no issue any more as well. The 8-channel (16 audio channels) AES/EBU card will convert the sample rate to the one shared in the network.

The devices can be equipped exactly according to the customer’s requirements and the following versions can be purchased:

X6R
16 microphone inputs
16 line inputs
16 line outputs
8 microphone and 8 line inputs

VX-64 Vocal Strip is a seven-stage processor designed specifically for shaping and sculpting incredible sounding vocal tracks. Each of the VX-64’s stages have been fine-tuned to be vocal-specific, taking the work out of dialing in an entire chain of vocal processors.

The VX-64 features a new Cakewalk technology that employs phase-coherent, multi-band saturation to avoid unwanted distortion; unique filtering to avoid harsh artifacts at extreme high and low frequencies; and an auto-leveling circuit that prevents the tube saturation from sounding too harsh when high gain transients are processed by it.

VX-64 also employs a new de-essing algorithm designed with Cakewalk’s LP64 linear phase effect filtering technology to remove sibilance without creating any frequency smearing.

Processing stages include:
* Input — simulates a tube pre amp
* De-esser — removes sibilance without smearing
* Compander — vocal compressor with an expander to reduce unwanted background noise
* Tube EQ — for adding character ranging from subtle warmth to intense heat to the vocal
* Doubler — advanced doubling effect providing the quality of actual re-tracking
* Delay — preset delays useful for vocal tracks with tempo sync
* Output — provide saturation control with a built in soft-clipping filter
* Order of processor stages is user definable with click & drag reordering

Channel Tools — provides easy and powerful control over individual placement of the left and right channels anywhere in the stereo field. Ideal for adjusting L/R channel placement, gain, pan/width, and phase; also provides a widening or narrowing effect to stereo recordings through adjustments to mid-side gain.

Boost 11 Peak Limiter — gives your tracks radio-ready punch through transparent peak limiting and volume maximization without additional coloring of the source material. Boost 11 employs a “look-ahead” limiter and PDR (Program Dependent Release) to provide professional results with a simple interface.

Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3 LE — built on the latest award-winning guitar amp modeler from Native Instruments; 3 amps and cabinets, 11 effects, tuner, metronome, and over 50 presets.

Dimension LE — a streamlined version of the acclaimed Dimension Pro instrument from Cakewalk. Dimension LE features over 400 sound programs, ranging from bass, organ, and electric piano samples to cutting-edge synth sounds, rhythmic grooves, and a special edition of Garritan Pocket Orchestra.

Rapture LE — is a special version of the award winning Rapture wavetable synthesizer. It includes over 200 programs and hundreds of oscillator shapes. Rapture LE is perfect for performing the modern synthesized sounds igniting today’s pop, dance, and electronic music.

Crown Audio Debuts HiQnet Band Manager Software App For Portable PA System Configuration & Control

Band Manager unlocks all loudspeaker processing capabilities of Crown XTi Series amplifiers

Delivering a sound management solution to the portable PA market at the 2009 ProLight+Sound/Muzikmesse in Frankfurt, Crown Audio has introduced HiQnet Band Manager software, a free-of-charge application providing a sleek function-driven interface designed to simplify system setup and management while enabling audio professionals, musicians, and engineers to configure and control a rack of Crown XTi series amplifiers.

Band Manager unlocks all loudspeaker processing capabilities of the XTi Series. Once it automatically discovers up to eight USB-connected XTi amplifiers, represented in a virtual rack, all the setup required is to load each amplifier with the JBL-provided loudspeaker tunings and set which amplifiers are driving front-of-house.

Band Manager makes smart use of browser-style navigation and the ‘Home’ screen displays monitor strips for each amplifier in the rack and front-of-house EQ and level control.  EQ for stage monitors and all other processing is accessible on an individual amplifier basis.

Upon starting Band Manager, all amplifier settings are transferred from the connected devices but they can also be saved to disk for quick recall if the rack is used often in multiple venues.

Band Manager is a cut-down version of its parent software, HiQnet System Architect, a much larger application which provides full-system control of over 70 professional audio devices from across the entire Harman Pro group, including the XTi Series.

Anyone who has already used System Architect with the XTi will instantly be familiar with the amplifier control layout since Band Manager makes use of the same software plug in.

Directly tailoring Band Manager to the needs of portable PA market enables far quicker configuration of a rack of XTi amplifiers by bringing only the essential tools into direct focus.  For those who need the more advanced control, any rack configurations saved within Band Manager can be opened in System Architect.

By using the plug in concept, Band Manager is all ready to control other future portable PA HiQnet devices.

Commenting on the introduction of Band Manager, Andy Flint, Crown marketing manager for portable PA, stated, “Band Manager provides users with a simple and intuitive interface capable of unlocking the vast array of system setup and management tools included in the XTi product line’s integrated processing.  This is another excellent example of Harman’s experience and dedication to the portable PA market.”

While Band Manager is being introduced to operate in conjunction with Crown XTi amplifiers it is planned to take control of other complimentary Harman HiQnet products in the near future.

“As a group, we envision Band Manager being used to manage an entire portable PA sound system all the way from microphone to speaker.  When introducing software control, making the management of a potentially complex audio system as simple as possible is the most important goal.  It is no longer enough to just provide the user with the highest quality equipment, you need to offer great, user-friendly tools to open its potential as well,” added Flint.

Ringgold Baptist Church Selects WorxAudio TrueLineX3i-P Line Array For Audio Upgrade

Painted white to match the room’s décor, the WorxAudio TrueLineX3i-P is a compact, “all-in-one” line array system incorporating three modules

With a rich history that dates back to 1876, Ringgold Baptist Church recently decided to overhaul the sound reinforcement system in its sanctuary, an effort spearheaded by Danville, VA-based Big Sound Productions, which selected a WorxAudio Technologies TrueLine X3i-P line array to head the new system.

Chuck Eskey, Owner of Big Sound Productions, a design/build firm that caters primarily to the church audiovisual installation market, discussed the challenges this project presented.

“The sanctuary at Ringgold Baptist Church is approximately 80 feet long by 45 feet wide, with a sheet rock ceiling at a height of 21 feet,” notes Eskey. “The space provides fixed pew seating for approximately 300 people and worship services are fairly traditional in nature—with music provided by choral, piano, or organ performances. The stage/altar area faces into the length of the room.”

“Speech intelligibility and the ability to accurately reproduce music were key considerations in the selection of the upgraded audio system,” continued Eskey. “Of equal importance, a clear line of sight to the stage from any seat in the sanctuary—free from visual obstructions caused by loudspeaker enclosures—was deemed essential. For this reason, I determined that a centrally-positioned line array system made the best choice for this space.”

Painted white to match the room’s décor, the WorxAudio TrueLineX3i-P is a compact, “all-in-one” line array system incorporating three modules, each with a medium format, 1-inch exit compression driver that is paired with dual 8-inch cone transducers.

The system utilizes a total of three high frequency drivers and six bass drivers—all housed in a low-profile enclosure. The upper two modules of theX3i-P provide 10-degree vertical dispersion while the lower module delivers a 25-degree vertical pattern. Combined, the three modules create a 36-degree vertical system with an unusually broad horizontal dispersion of 160 degrees.

The system is self-powered by WorxAudio’s PMD-1.5 digital power amplifier that delivers 1,000 watts to the low frequencies and 500 watts to the highs.

To create a visually clean and uncluttered appearance, Eskey deployed WorxAudio’s unique TrueAim Grid rigging hardware. The TrueAim Grid incorporates a proprietary means of leveling the line array and suspends the entire system with a single industry-standard schedule 40 pipe through which all wiring passes, creating a clean, aesthetically pleasing appearance—free from the distractions of visible cable.

“We flew theX3i-P at a height of 20 feet at the front center edge of the stage,” says Eskey. “The TrueAim Grid creates the impression that the system is floating in air. It’s a remarkably clean looking setup.”

Eskey commented on theX3i-P’s performance attributes, “TheX3i-P turned out to be ideal for this sanctuary. The system has the throw to cover the entire room and its broad 160-degree horizontal dispersion could not be better for this space. No matter where you sit, sound quality is consistent, speech intelligibility is clear and natural, and the music reproduction characteristics of the system are very musical.

“With the front row of the congregation positioned approximately six feet from the edge of the stage, I was initially concerned about the volume up close. As it turns out, the level is well balanced from front to rear—without blasting those seated in the front rows.”

Eskey and his crew also installed a single TrueLine X1i-P line array module behind the X3i-P cluster that faces the congregation. Angled down at the stage/altar area, this element serves as a downfill monitor—enabling those on stage to hear clearly during services.

“Like the X3i-P,” Eskey explained, “the X1i-P provides broad horizontal dispersion, so a single element covers the entire stage area. Both loudspeaker systems are white, so they blend seamlessly into the décor of the room.”

Ringgold Baptist Church’s new TrueLine X3i-P line array system was installed during the latter half of February and was first placed into service on Sunday, March 1st to the delight of Ringgold Baptist Church Pastor Dr. Steve Ellis.

“The new loudspeaker system represents a dramatic departure from what we previously had,” notes Ellis. “The system really is amazing. No matter where one sits, the sound quality is very natural. Speech is clear and music sounds wonderful through the system. Chuck and his crew not only selected the ideal loudspeaker setup for our sanctuary, he installed it in such a way that it delivers the full potential of the system. Our entire congregation has responded very positively to the new equipment.”

New EASE Address v1.1 Calculates 2D Maps Of Both Signal-To-Noise & Direct Sound Coverage

Major enhancements in the latest software release include exporting of entire rooms, importing floors from EASE; 2D maps of both direct sound coverage and signal-to-noise ratios, support for constant-voltage systems; saving maps with the project, saving or printing maps and other output files to RTF (Rich Text Format) and PDF (Portable Document Format)

Ahnert Feistel Media Group (AFMG) has released version 1.1 of EASE Address software. The program has been licensed by SoundTube Entertainment, Bosch, Electro-Voice, Dynacord, Bouyer, QSC and Tannoy for the design and optimization of ceiling loudspeaker installations and other distributed systems.

“EASE Address is the most efficient program I’ve found for ceiling system design,” says Bruce C. Olson of Olson Sound Design, who has used the software on major design projects. “It gives me exactly the information I need to optimize a design and present it to the client - no more, no less. The software uses the EASE acoustic engine, so I have complete confidence that my models are predicting real world results.”

“We are continually working to make EASE Address more useful to systems integrators and manufacturers,” says Stefan Feistel of AFMG.

Major enhancements in the latest software release include: exporting of entire rooms, including loudspeaker systems, to EASE; importing floors from EASE; 2D maps of both direct sound coverage and signal-to-noise ratios (the latter based on a user-entered value for ambient noise); support for constant-voltage systems; saving maps with the project; saving or printing maps and other output files to RTF (Rich Text Format) and PDF (Portable Document Format).

EASE Address models the direct sound output of distributed systems in two dimensions, using the acoustical calculation engine behind EASE (Enhanced Acoustic Simulator for Engineers) 4.2, the industry standard for sound reinforcement modeling.

The program is available as a free download at www.EaseAddress.com and from licensees. Loudspeaker data in AFMG’s GLL (Generic Loudspeaker Library) data format is available direct from the licensees: new loudspeaker models can be added without writing a single line of code.

Production bundle has six plug-ins to give mixes a lift and a professional edge. These include NonLin2 for vocal, percussive and effected reverb; DVR2 for modulation and spectral effects; VSS3 for the ultimate in accurate spatial reverbs, MD3 for stereo mastering; Tube-Tech CL1B for tube compressor/limiter emulation; and Harmony4 for natural, intelligent vocal harmonies.

The Studio Complete bundle contains all of the plug-ins found in the Mastering and Production bundles - MD3 Stereo Mastering, Brickwall Limiter, Unwrap, MasterX3, NonLin2, DVR2, VSS3, Tube-Tech CL1B, and Harmony4.

The cost of the Studio Complete bundle offers a significant saving over buying the two bundles individually.

There is a cross-grade program for users of older, discontinued products, including Voice Tools, MegaReverb, TC Reverb, Master X5, TC Tools and TDM Works. Further, there is also an upgrade path for users who own the following products: Master X3, DVR2, NonLin2, Harmony4, Tube-Tech CL-1B, VSS3, MD3 and Unwrap.

Propellerhead Software Updates Its Recycle Package & Offers Free Video Tutorial

ReCycle lets artists do with sampled loops and phrases what they can do with beats and riffs programmed from individual sounds.

Propellerhead updates the ReCycle package with a new look and streamlined packaging, and includes a detailed, hour-long video tutorial from ASK Video that helps users get started with the ReCycle toolkit. In the tutorial, ASK Video’s Mike Baggley takes users step by step from installing and setting up ReCycle to turning concrete-rigid loops into musical modeling clay in no time.

ReCycle lets artists do with sampled loops and phrases what they can do with beats and riffs programmed from individual sounds. Producers use Recycle for making loops tempo-independent, and as a quick phrase editor for easy comping, mash ups and remix work.

Load any sampled sound into ReCycle, the program will look at the file, analyze it, and slice it up into its rhythmic components. The file can then be rearranged, pitched or have its tempo freely adjusted. Artists have full control over the individual slices and can alter the timing or even quantize the groove, keep the feel of the loop and replace the sounds with their own.

A favorite among sound designers and producers, ReCycle’s REX format is supported by all major music software titles including applications such as Apple Logic, Digidesign Pro Tools, Steinberg Cubase, Cakewalk Sonar, Ableton Live, MOTU Digital Performer and Propellerhead Reason, and software instruments such as Native Instruments Kontakt, Spectrasonics Stylus RMX or Digidesign Transfuser.
