Lucid Studio Sync Generator At ZAC Recording
Studios
ATLANTA, GEORGIA: With the recent addition of a Lucid GENx6-96 studio sync
generator to the ProTools setup in ZAC Digital Room A, ZAC Recording
Studios has considerably improved the sound of their system - and
"considerably" might be an understatement. Located in
bustling Atlanta, Georgia, ZAC boasts equipment rental, mastering,
analog and digital recording services and is "home away from
home" for some of Atlanta's most respected artists.
ZAC's owner, Jim Zumpano, had no intention of upgrading his clock
generator. Like most, he had read all the articles on the advantages
of this or that clock and had heard the arguments between tech-obsessed
engineers. But like so much of the technical mumbo jumbo out there,
he felt clock quality wouldn't amount to much in the grand scheme
of things. Better to spend his day recording bands than A/B'ing
digital clocks!

Based on the heartfelt conviction of a close friend however,
Zumpano arranged to put a Lucid GENx6-96 up against the major
competition. "We noticed an immediate difference,"
he reported. "It wasn't subtle at all. Everyone in the
room instantly knew that the GENx6 was a vast improvement
over the other leading brand. I've worked with a lot of digital
audio workstations and was never convinced they could reach
their potential, but with the GENx6 I think we're finally
reaching that plateau."
The Lucid GENx6 drives ZAC's three Digidesign 888|24 ProTools
interfaces, and the USD via Digidesign's superclock format;
it's one of the few synchronization devices on the market
to feature superclock. The ProTools system runs 5.01 software
on a Mac G4 with MixPlus24 audio cards.

"Now that I have two ProTools rooms that I'm trying to book,
every sonic edge that I can provide gives me an edge," noted
Zumpano. "It gets customers coming back. When asked, I tell
them the GENx6 is affordable and absolutely necessary!" Atlanta
production guru Rusty Cobb is one of those return customers who
are enjoying the Lucid GENx6 difference. He's recorded area upstarts
Grasshopper, and Cloud 10 with the new GENx6-96. Other recent users
include Arrested Development's founder Speech who recently powered
it up for his forth solo release on EMI/Japan.
