Exercise in Mapping Sound Sources Against Time Line

Graph the first few major sections of a piece of popular music through the following steps:

1. Compile a listing of all the sound sources of a piece of music (individual percussion sounds and vocal parts must all be listed separately).

2. Create a suitable time line, by:
a. determining the pulse (metric grid) of the piece of music;
b. mapping the pulses into groups of strong and weak pulses (measures); and
c. plotting those divisions of time (measures) on the horizontal (X) axis in suitable increments to depict the example being graphed.

3. Plot the individual sound sources against the time line. Each sound source will have its own location along the vertical axis, making it unnecessary to make distinctions between the lines of each sound source on the graph.
