Golden Acres Baptist Church (GABC) in Phenix City, AL, recently added a 225-seat balcony to an existing 500-seat sanctuary, requiring a shift in audio coverage patterns. “Golden Acres began including more contemporary elements into their three Sunday services over the past several years,” explains Bill Manning of All Pro Sound, the Pensacola, FL-based company which did the system design and installation. “We provided a basic audio system with high-level components to meet their current needs with plenty of room to accommodate their future needs.”
Manning began at the front-end, re-doing the wiring infrastructure for simplicity and modern connectivity, while the band upgraded from monitor wedges to an Aviom wireless personal monitoring system. Inputs feed a 48-channel Yamaha M7 digital console with full automation and recall.
Just a single, flown Danley Sound Labs SH-96 three-way loudspeaker is capable of providing coverage to most of the seating area. Incorporating four 15-inch drivers, six mid-frequency drivers, and one high-frequency driver, it produces tight, coherent full-range output, with a 90 x 60-degree coverage pattern fitting well in delivering coverage to the uniquely shaped space. Amplification is QSC PL Series, with digital processing from an Ashly Audio Protea processor.
