At the recent 74th Annual Academy Awards ceremony, Chris Munro received an Oscar for Best Motion Picture Sound on the film "Black Hawk Down".

With fellow colleagues Michael Minkler and Myron Nettinga, Munro recorded "Black Hawk Down" on Fostex PD-4 portable timecode DAT machines.

As one of the first sound mixers to own a PD-4, Munro has collaborated with the company on enhancements such as Event Numbers in the timecode user bit. This enabled him to be a pioneer of the “magless dailies” process.

Munro is currently working on the latest Bond movie "Die Another Day", using five new Fostex DV40 DVD-RAM 4 track machines to record audio directly to non-linear DVD-RAM. The machines also supply original digital audio in the screening theatres at Pinewood Film Studios and on location.

Working together closely on the software development for the DV40, Muro and the company have developed near instant import and export of audio to and from Avid Film Composer, removing the necessity for the production to transfer audio to expensive magnetic film stock.
