Head of his own consulting firm, Electroacoutic Design Services in El Cerrito, CA, Tom began working in live sound nearly three decades ago after several years of playing bass and building bass and PA speaker cabinets. From 1972-1980 he provided sound for a variety of Connecticut bar bands, regional concerts and special events, and he then focused on the design and building of custom loudspeakers for New England regional sound companies, TV and radio studios, recording studios and bands. |
In 1985, Tom returned to live sound as a staff engineer for Sun Sound Audio in Massachusetts, where he did large numbers of one-offs and regional tours, while also participating in the beta-testing of the (then) new EAW KF850 system. The following year, he served as the A-1 for a six-month tour of A Chorus Line throughout Europe and the Middle East.
He also toured North America with Najee (the Grammy-winning jazz saxophonist), mixed monitors for Donald Fagens Lone Star Café dates and provided sound for the Rolling Stones Steel Wheels tour press conference at Grand Central Station in New York.
This was followed by three years with Altel Systems, a sound contracting firm based in metro New York, and then he joined Artec Consultants of New York as a consultant and sound designer. He worked on numerous concert hall, theatre and church projects in both the U.S. and Europe. Simultaneously, he was head of audio for a large New York church.
Tom joined Meyer Sound in 1999 before founding his firm in 2001, supplying electroacoustic design, optimization and project management for installed sound systems in performance spaces and churches.
Over the years Tom has completed numerous Sound System Engineering seminars as well as workshops in loudspeaker system design, digital signal processing, digital audio networks and live sound, all presented by Syn-Aud-Con. He obtained SIM-II certification in 1996, has been a beta-tester for Smaart software (even prior to its first release) and is a technical advisor to Church Production magazine. And, Tom is a member of AES, USITT and ASA www.asa.org.
