Rane SR 3 Smart Remote Distributes Control

Rane's new SR 3 Smart Remote with integrated LCD display is a wall-mounted remote for a myriad of control applications. The SR 3 is designed to work with programmable control systems (such as Panja or Crestron) and distribute control throughout an installation.

The unit offers RS-485 remote control with a 31-position LED indicator, data encoder with built in push switch and a 98 x 64 pixel LCD display with a programmable backlight. The encoder can be locked out by grounding the Encoder Lock terminal and enabling Auto Lock in the SR 3 Configurator software which is used to configure SR 3 devices.

Up to 16 bitmaps can be stored locally in the SR 3 EEPROM and can be automatically recalled to correspond with different system functional modes. Screens are dynamically created using built-in, read-only character fonts.

The SR 3 contains two types of fonts: text and symbol. The text font characters are standard ASCII and come in three sizes: small, medium and large. The symbol font icons (graphic symbols) map to standard ASCII characters and come in two sizes: medium and large. The simple icons can be used instead of, or in addition to, text and graphics. The SR 3 can be configured to automatically handle the data encoder, screen graphic image selection and lockout functions, or these can be handled manually by a host controller via Rane RW 485 protocol. The SR 3 is electrically compatible with standard RS-485 interfaces plus power, thus requiring only a CAT 5 cable with a shield or two twisted pairs plus a shield.

It mounts in a standard U.S. electrical box with a minimum depth of 2 1/4-in, and can be flush covered with a standard Decora plate cover. Since Decora plates come in different colors, each SR 3 ships with four different inserts that install behind the lens. Colors included are white (with black logo), white (with almond logo), almond (with black logo) and black (with white logo). If the architect or interior decorator requires a custom color, a template is available allowing a custom insert to be made (out of the wall paper if need be) and cut to the proper size.

It includess an RS-485 control port, generic software protocol, backlit LCD display with downloadable graphics capability and rotary encoder with push-to-click and position indicator. The SR 3 fits anywhere simple user control is required with an Panja or Crestron system where the budget won't support multiple touch screen locations. The SR 3 is now shipping.
