Meyer Sound Debuts MM-4 Ultra-Compact
Wide-Range Loudspeaker
Meyer Sound has introduced the MM-4 Ultra-Compact Wide-Range Loudspeaker and companion MM-4CEU Control Electronics Unit, intended for 70-volt distributed and industrial sound applications.

The first product in Meyer Sounds new Industrial Series of loudspeakers, the MM-4 includes a single 4-in cone driver with a 16-ohm voice coil mounted in a sealed enclosure. It does not require a transformer, easing installation requirements.

In distributed applications, the MM-4 connects directly to the 70-volt line through an optional L-pad, which controls the loudspeakers output level. Drawing 300 watts peak from the line, the MM-4 produces 110 dB peak SPL (Editors Note: We assume this is at 1W/1m.)
With a maximum of four MM-4s connected in parallel on the line, a direct drive power amplifier capable of 600 watts long-term output, into 4-ohms, is required. When used with the companion MM-4CEU Control Electronics Unit, the MM-4s usable frequency response is 125 Hz to 15 kHz.
The MM-4CEU is a two-channel, single-rack-space unit that provides frequency and phase response correction circuitry tailored to the MM-4 loudspeaker. Through a Meyers proprietary SpeakerSense connection to the power amplifier output, the MM-4CEU continuously monitors the power applied to the driver, activating integral peak and RMS limiters to protect the driver from over-exertion and overheating, respectively.
The MM-4CEU incorporates Meyers MultiSense circuit, allowing a single MM-4CEU to monitor multiple amplifier channels at once and activate its protection circuits based upon the system branch with the highest signal level. MultiSense also allows adjusting the levels of individual zones using the power amplifier level controls while protecting all of the MM-4s in the system.
The MM-4CEU offers a laser-trimmed differential input that affords high common-mode rejection to minimize interference, and a push-pull output capable of driving 600 ohms. A front-panel switch controls a 160 Hz high-pass filter for response compensation when the MM-4 is used with a subwoofer, or to compensate for boundary conditions. AC power is switchable in the ranges of 100-125 and 200-250 VAC, 50/60 Hz.
The MM-4 enclosure comes standard as paintable black anodized extruded aluminum, and acts as a sink to dissipate heat from the driver voice coil. The unit can be ordered custom-painted in any specified color required to match décor. It is fitted with a perforated steel grill (which can also be painted) and two connector options.
For outdoor installations, a looping EN-3 connector is available. For interior applications, a Phoenix-style sealed and keyed connector is an option. The MM-4 weighs approximately 4 lbs. For mounting, a companion U-bracket is optionally available that affixes to the cabinet with two 3/8-16 screws and is drilled to fit a Unimount bracket. An optional flush-mount kit is available for ceiling or wall mount loudspeaker applications.
