QSC, Community Components Team Up At Chicagoland Speedway

Hosting NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series races, the new Chicagoland Speedway includes a 1.5-mile tri-oval track, grandstand seating for 75,000 spectators, and 37 luxury suites.

Wrightson Johnson Haddon & Williams (WJHW) of Dallas specified an audio system for the facility that includes more than 40 QSC CX Series power amplifiers driving weather-resistant R Series loudspeakers from Community.

The Chicago operation of Signal Perfection Limited (SPL) provided installation of the system. According to SPL Senior V.P. Bill Gillette, "Probably the greatest obstacle to providing good sound in a racing environment like this are the race cars themselves, which can easily pummel the grandstands with broadband levels measuring between 100 and 150 dB."

The Community R Series loudspeakers are distributed on poles throughout the grandstand area. The QSC amplification package includes 20 CX1202Vs and nine CX902s, linked to a QSControl Ethernet-based audio network for control and monitoring from the system control position.
