NSCA Introduction! Pipeline Loudspeaker Technology Rides Linear Wave |
I-Tek Design has debuted the Pipeline PL-12 line array loudspeaker utilizing a vertical array of proprietary flat-panel transducers that couple perfectly in the vertical axis without phase cancellation. I-Tek President Junichi Isono explains that this new technology solves the problem of frequency response anomalies and loss of power that plague older line array products which employ standard cone drivers that only roughly approximate a line source. The ultra-low-mass of the flat panel transducers provide very good transient response and a detailed, extended high end, while the transducer geometry creates a wavefront that attenuates at only half the rate of a conventional sound source. Isono notes that for every doubling of distance, the Pipeline speaker loses just 3 dB instead of the expected 6 dB.
Pipeline speakers require very little installation space and in many applications, the use of a Pipeline speaker can disguise the fact that a loudspeaker is present in the environment. They are available in either clear or black anodized aluminum enclosures. |
