| A new beat
at Mexico’s Cuernavaca Club
|
The Barbazul Disco in Cuernavaca, Mexico, has a new sound system.
Located about a 90-minute drive north of Mexico City, it’s
been a popular nightspot for more than two decades.

“We wanted to re-invent
ourselves,” explains Cuauhtémoc Rubio, Barbazul’s
managing director. “The idea was to woo back our customers
from ten years ago and offer them a different entertainment
option. We wanted to move away from the image of a discotheque
crowded only with very young people.”
|
The club’s management asked independent contractor Salvador
Mata to supply and install a sound system able to produce quality
sound and high sound pressure levels for the main dance floor and
even coverage for the surrounding bar, VIP areas, and the outdoor
terrace.
Mata worked with Meyer
Sound Mexico’s Ricardo Marquina and Federico Peña
to draft a final design for the main system, which includes four
MeyerUPA-2P compact loudspeakers and two 650-P subwoofer, configured
as a left-right system. In addition, two UPA-2Ps are splayed 30
degrees apart and one 650-P is ground stacked on both sides of the
main dance floor. The bar area is covered by two Meyer UPA-1P compact
loudspeakers and two UPM-1P ultra-compact loudspeakers for delayed
fill. Two more UPM-1Ps cover the VIP section, while eight MM-4 miniature
loudspeakers controlled by an MM-4 CEU unit cover the terrace.
The
system installation also included two CP-10S tamper resistant complementary
phase parametric equalizers, one VX-1 Program equalizer and one
LD-1A Line Driver for system EQ and zone level control. Meyer Sound
México’s Peña and Cobos performed final tuning
of the system using the SIM System II FFT Analyzer, ensuring that
patrons in every zone of the club enjoyed the highest quality sound
with seamless coverage.
The club also met its goal of broadening
its base of older clientele. As Rubio points out, “With all
these new changes, and especially our new sound system, we have
succeeded not only in satisfying our customers but also in raising
their average age from 20 to 30 years.”
