The Dynamics Dilemma
Summary
19 March 2008 at 7.30pm at
The Bath House (upstairs), 96 Dean Street, London W1
The hot topic of DYNAMICS is very much in the forefront of debate these days. It has become evident that maximising compression and loudness does not necessarily go hand-in-hand with maintaining a clear recording, and with the increasing popularity of MP3 players, more and more music is suffering from this frenzy of dynamic squashing as multiple levels of compression are added to a recording.
Following the MPG’s own Loudness Wars event this week, the APRS takes a wider look at the use of compression and its effect on the dynamic range in the audio and post industries. A panel representing the different sectors will outline the practices of dynamics compression in each and will weigh the pros, cons and pitfalls of the use of compression, as demands on the industry to compress more begin to compromise the quality of what we are listneing to.
