Moderator: Welcome!
John Tripeny: Welcome everyone!
Chris Kathman: I will embarrass Trip by saying he is an "A"
systems tech and mixer, employed by ATK, really knows V-DOSC www.l-acoustics.com/
and has been mixing Ricky Martin's stadium shows.
John: Now we all know how old I am!
Chris: You are a child prodigy with a tan!
John: Me and George Hamilton.
Chris: He can't put up a V-DOSC rig!
Scott F.: What was Rob like to work with on Ricky Martin when you
were system tech?
John: A VERY good question Scott. Demanding would be my best answer.
Chris: Who is Rob, for the rest of us?
John: That would be Rob "Cubby" Colby (FOH mixer for the
tour). We used the same tuning every night and Cub did everything
on the console. Once we had dialed up a crossover he was comfortable
with, we rarely changed the system or even touched the graphs.
Ken: Was he tuning the system to the room with the console EQ?
Chris: Ken is mad!
Ken: And tired.
John: No Ken, we just found a crossover that worked nearly everywhere
and he simply EQ'd the inputs. The most we would change from day
to day was the phase of the subs.
Chris: What computer did you drive the XTA
with?
John: I had a Dell
Winbook... ANCIENT.
Jim G: I have mixed on V-DOSC some and like the sound of it. My
question: is it really that inefficient to use a Crown
MA-5000 on every band, and has it ever been done with a bit more
conventional power amp set up?
John: ATK uses the QSC
PowerLight amps. Some prefer Crown and claim they sound better.
