Ray: Convergence is much more than getting the three lenses on the projector aligned. :>) Yes, we are in a world that includes other things besides audio and we need to be able to relate to those other things.
Robert James: Rumor has it that you're distributing Superlux microphones?
Ray: Well I saw the mics at a trade show and figured they had to be junk since they were soooo cheap! I was wrong. Now I am not really interested in selling things, but since my local dealers did not want to carry the mics, I decided to buy some and try to introduce other folk to the line. I am not trying to replace the dealers, only provide a source if your local dealer does not carry them yet.
Robert James: What specifically do you like about these mics?
Ray: They have good sound at a low price. They are large diaphragm condensers, at prices starting down where a SM58 is. This makes them interesting for churches and others who would like a good mic at a low price.
Robert James: Specific applications that you'd recommend trying them for?
Ray: I have used them for vocals, overhead on drums, piano and guitar. Think of anyplace you might use a C414 or U87. They are not quite at the performance level of those mics but they come close at a far lower price.
Moderator: Where would one go to find out more about these mics?
Ray: Go to my web site at www.soundfirst.com. I have a link on the main page to the Superlux mic page.
Greg T: See anything else of interest at InfoComm?
Ray: Neutrik has a neat new connector. Lots of us who use RJ45 plugs for data have wished for a more rugged version. Now Neutrik has made one, a RJ45 in an XLR type shell. The panel mount female will take ordinary RJ45 plugs, or the rugged ones with the XLR shell protecting them. The cable end can be assembled over a pre-made RJ45 plug you can put the shells over existing factory made patch cords.
Jeffrey: There seems to be an ever-growing mass of automixers hitting the market. Can you help cut to the chase with recommendations on models you prefer, and why?
Ray: I love the automixers that use the Dugan or gain sharing system. These seem to be very natural when dealing with our existing mics. In the future, I think we will see even better performance from auto mixers designed to work with array microphones. These will allow you to specify an area in space from which you want to pick up the sound, and everything outside of that area will be rejected. This will be the next big improvement in this technology.
