OSM: I do not hate either. What are you talking about?
AnnaK: Is it harder or easier for a woman to get into the mixing
business?
OSM: It's hard as hell, and I have worked with some GREAT women
mixers. Now answer my question, please. Why did you ask that first
question?
AnnaK: After reading everything you've written for PSW, your attitude
feels like anger and a couple of lines you've written appeared to
be derogatory toward women in the industry. Sorry if I offended
you. I thought perhaps a woman made you bitter.
OSM: I am not offended, and also I am not going to joke about this.
I support women mixers, always have, and am stunned that I ever
accidentally seemed to not project that. I express plenty of anger
toward men, I think you will have to admit. :-)
Jim G: I used to be like you, but competition made me nicer. Should
I go back to my old ways, do you think?
OSM: No, do what is right for you. I actually know what you are
talking about. Seen it many times. Part of why I stay out of the
Big City.
Moderator: How old is the OSM? Are you Shure Vocalmaster old, or
JBL Perkins box old?
OSM: Ha ha! The Shure Vocalmaster inhabited the basement of where
those "bad kids" rehearsed their band.
Moderator: Do you remember mixing your very first KF850 rig?
OSM: Yes, I do. It was in the great state of Utah, at an outdoor
show. I couldn't figure out what the fuss was with them. After a
while, the nationwide uniformity was cool. But I never LOVED them
the way some people did and do.
Grampa Lee: Wasn't "the fuss" with the KF850 was that
it allowed persons with checkbooks rather than experience to start
sound companies?
OSM: Grampa rips in hard! You said it, I didn't. Checkbooks have
been around for many years before the 850, right? There have always
been people who purchased but didn't follow through with good staff
or maintenance. Lots of different speakers were presented poorly.
Improvements in how people run the 850 (and 750) reflect industry-wide
improvements such as DSP.
