Neil (continued): Now in a fixed installation, if the system is demonstrably free of Pin-1 problems you won't have noise problems in the first place. If you DO have Pin-1 problems, balanced power is a very expensive method of smothering the symptoms of Pin-1 problems. Get rid of the Pin-1 biz and your system will be quiet on a conventional power service.

Neil (continued): There are other issues. I know of no legacy equipment that has double-pole power switches. This means that when you turn off the power. the inside of the device is still hot. Without a second fuse, if the one fuse blows, the inside of the box is very hot. This is a safety issue. If you modify the box, you have just blown the UL listing AND the warranty. I could go on, but I hope this gets the message out.

Nicole Like: Is there any noticeable interference with my standard equipment once a SurgeX product is connected?

Neil: There shouldn't be. SurgeX will eliminate all traces of differential power line noise. In a system with Pin-1 problems, any difference would most likely be in the direction of less noise, crashes, etc.

Nicole Like: Also, does the MOV have to be removed to connect SurgeX? Can it be removed? Should it be removed?

Neil: The MOV's in a power bar can be eliminated by disconnecting the power bar and trashing it. Installing a SurgeX in front of a MOV power bar will disable the MOV’s, so now you just have an expensive outlet bar. There is an 8-outlet SurgeX.

Nicole Like: How long do SurgeX products last as opposed to MOV's?

Neil: There is no upper limit that we are aware of. After 8 years and over 100,000 units in the field, there have been no reports of failures. SurgeX products are guaranteed for 10 years.

Jennifer Goodman: What is the best way for me to see the models available, to make a determination to select the right model for my equipment?

Neil: Just go to www.surgex.com. All the specs are there, as well as pdf’s.

Nicole Like: Are there any other SPD's that are as effective on the market today? And how, if at all, do firewalls effect use of SurgeX?

Neil: None as effective. And, firewalls are a data protection matter to keep viruses and similar “nasties” out. SurgeX keeps out power nasties. According to Business Week magazine, the estimated cost to U.S. business, directly attributable to power line problems, is at $28B annually.

SDK: Hi Neil. If you would like some specific examples of SurgeX success posted, just ask.

Neil: Go for it!

SDK: I had a church client who took a direct hit on the building, with extensive electrical and electronic damage to parts of the building. There is a SurgeX [SX-120R] on the sound system that survived without any power line damage.
