David Elliott: Just curious, because some band members want a constant and others want the fade. Keeps me busy.

Larry: In my opinion, that's the toughest part of mixing for IEMs.

David Elliott: Agreed.

Larry: There is no 'book' way to make everyone happy. Some like the isolation, some love the ambience.

Paul Tucci: This question just in from Ithaca, NY Who were you working for here? Calf?

Larry: A-ha, now we're going way back before Calf Audio. That company was called Celebration Sound. The engineer and owner was David Wickstrom, an audio genius that I learned volumes from.

David Elliott: Was it the Dean Bros?

Larry: Dave, I did work for the Dean Brothers band in Ithaca, and interestingly, we cut a record on an 8-track Ampex in our living room.

Paul Tucci: They asked me to do lights for them in 1974 or so. They were into hot pants, I wasn't…

Moderator: Talk about too much information!

David Elliott: Ahh...The Altec 1220 - man, that was the only thing I wore back then!

Larry: I cut my teeth on that 1220, the first mixing console of any size I ever used. If I recall correctly, it had 10 or 12 channels, but had faders.

David Elliott: I was there - the North 40.

Larry: As long as no one in the audience bumped the console and caused the reverb spring to let loose, you were OK.

Moderator: My only experience in Ithaca was at a club called "Night Court".

Mike F.: Didn't the original Paragon have proprietary balanced input/output chips?

Larry: You are absolutely correct Mike F! ATI owns the patent on that chip, which we recently licensed to THAT Corp., for further development and manufacture. You may see it a Best Buy soon!

soundguy: Does API do most of its business in rack gear or Legacy consoles these days?

Larry: Well, API has been a fabulous addition to The ATI Group. It's amazing - the module business just goes on and keeps growing while we're seeing an upsurge in console interest and orders for Legacy and Legacy Plus studio consoles. Analog does not appear to be DEAD as predicted! We're building consoles as well as rack gear on about a 50/50 split.

soundguy: Big question: where is the 7600? Is it shipping?

Larry: Thank the Lord, YES IT IS! The first units are out now and doing exceptionally well, with many more to come.
