David Scheirman: And the JF series?

Ken: JF series was named by Kenton after his first son.

The Old Soundman: You are really condescending to the people in the field! Nobody ever asks you to mix a big show, do they now?

Ken: Actually, I wouldn't expect anyone to ask me. I am very respectful of anyone who can mix a big show well. I don't think I could do that as good as most house engineers, as I don't think most house engineers could design systems or market them.

Chris Kathman: Whoa!

Ken: We each have our talents. The danger is when we think that due to our expertise in one area, we are qualified as experts in others.

Moderator: Very well said.

Ken: Again, it's all about a team. When the team is functioning well, it is always more powerful than any of the individual members.

Grampa Lee: It seems like clubs in Europe spend more on sound systems than most of their similar-sized counterparts in the US. Any insight as to why?

Ken: Europe has always been more advanced in many ways than the US, dating back to the original Martin bins and horns. The club market in Europe is subsidized in many ways by the government. For example, in the UK, the pubs are regulated and owned by the brewers.

Ken (continued): Additionally, throughout Europe, there are large entertainment companies that own the clubs and create a very high baseline that even the independents need to compete with. Financing as it relates to these large corporations is much easier than the local clubs in the US.

Ken (continued) In France, the government makes available "cultural funds" for local venues that creates a baseline for their income. I don't know that I would advocate that kind of government involvement in the US. As the US government tends to bring pretty conservative controls on content with any involvement.

Ken (continued): Also, the drinking age and bizarre anti-smoking regulations have hurt the club market in the US. I've never been a believer in legislating morality, but that's another story.

The Great Cornholio: Have you taken typing lessons recently?

Ken: Actually, I must admit, I have a scribe working for me here.

Moderator: Ken, a couple different questions were e-mailed to me that have to do with how to pack/splay the KF850.What's the gospel?
