Moderator: Good evening and welcome to out guest chat with Ken
Berger.
Ken: Hi All! Looking forward to an interesting discussion. Any questions
about European cars?
Chris Kathman: How about that (EAW) KF900?
Ken: At the Clapton gig, it was clearly the best sounding system
I've ever heard in a large room.
Grampa Lee: Ken when was the last time you actually were hands-on
during a performance, sound-wise, I mean?
Ken: Way too long, a few years. I would love to mix a show again
only I am rusty. I've been trying to build a studio to get my hands
dirty; just never seems to be enough time.
Moderator: Ken, I can agree with you about the KF900. The rig sounded
very "old school" for the opener, I thought.
Ken: KF900 started out as a science project. It was way too hard
to set up and required Dave Gunness to make it work. Now it seems
they have it to the point where the technology is useable. It has
always been the most advanced technology out there as far as I know...
Maybe too advanced at first for what people could actually use.
Frapo: Apart from speakers, what equipment are you partial to?
Ken: Do you mean other than cars? I love large diaphragm microphones
and ribbon mics
dstevis: Have you ever blown up a system before?
Ken: STEVE! You know that no one can blow up a system like me! You
have dealt with many of my demonstrations, or should I say, what's
left after my demonstrations!
dstevis: This is true!
Ken: I've always believed what separates the good from the great
in speakers and amps is how they handle being overdriven and customers/users
will always overdrive equipment.
Moderator: Going back to the microphone thing, this from MikeB:
Any mics in particular?
