Alto Professional has introduced the Black Series, a workhorse line of active 2-way loudspeakers and subwoofers.

The line includes the Black10, Black12, and Black15 active loudspeakers, plus the Black15S and Black18S active subwoofers.

Onboard DSP provides extensive control both directly and via the Alto Professional Live Drive wireless app for iOS devices. This allows each system to be
optimized in place and on the fly from a variety of listening positions.

The DSP offers active control over the EQ response, test tones, dynamic levels, and protection. Custom-specified drivers and a 2400-watt (peak) Class D amplifier supply plenty of headroom. The amplifier is equipped with active thermal protection and a ground lift switch.

Black Series loudspeakers are available with a 10-, 12-, or 15-inch woofers. Optimized to provide a 90- x 60-degree coverage, each model also contains a 1.75-inch high-frequency driver and an extensively tested HF waveguide.

“It’s about more than just power, though,” says Paul Gallo, Alto Professional product manager. “Each Black Series speaker is meticulously designed, super-efficient, and agile—just like a race car.”

The reinforced cabinets are constructed from rugged 18mm plywood covered in a durable, scratch-resistant finish. The sturdy steel grilles are dressed with a commercial-grade powder coating.

Recessed custom-molded handles make transport easy. Steel-reinforced rubber feet are located on two sides, allowing vertical or horizontal placement. A standard 35mm socket is provided for pole mounting, and M10 rigging points are provided.

The built-in mixer includes two mic/line combo inputs, volume controls, and a balanced XLR output.  The contour switch delivers enhanced EQ control. In addition, there is plus there is a switch to disable the LED-lit logo power indicator.

Using the wireless app from any iPad or iPhone delivers remote control of level-matching, test tones, tone-shaping, dynamics, and time alignment. In addition to this high-level DSP control, the wireless app allows the Black Series system to be tweaked and adjusted in place for optimal sound at all times.

Completing the Black Series are two 2400-Watt (peak) active subwoofers: the Black18S and Black15S. These subwoofers offer 18-inch and 15-inch long-excursion LF transducers, respectively, to deliver well-defined low-end response.

Subwoofers also have a built-in crossover and adjustable level and polarity controls, and are outfitted with stereo inputs: XLR+1/4-inch combo on the left channel and XLR on the right channel. XLR outputs are also provided.
