Leading audio provider Sound Image (Escondido, CA and Nashville) recently added VUE Audiotechnik al-4 subcompact line arrays and hs-25 ACM powered subwoofers to its inventory
Sound Image is commissioning the new VUE gear at the Thornton Winery Champaigne Jazz Series in Temecula, CA. Now it its 26th year, the 2014 Thornton lineup includes performances by George Benson, Lee Ritenour, Pat Metheny, David Sanborn, and Al Jarreau, and several others.
Leading the production efforts for the winery, Sound Image director of corporate and regional events Rick Stanley configured four separate al-4 arrays, each with four elements. Two VUE V4 Systems engines delivered power and processing to the arrays, while a pair of VUE h-Class ACM subwoofers provide low frequency support.
“This is an extremely wide venue with two adjacent listening zones at the far left and right of the primary listening area,” explains Stanley. “In addition, the venue faces very strict noise abatement restrictions. The VUE al-4 is really perfect for intimate settings like this. It’s easily scalable, offers really precise horizontal and vertical coverage control, and delivers spectacular sound quality-especially at the high end.”
Regarding the h-Class subs, he adds, “I’ve worked with many subwoofers that deliver great impact, but simply aren’t very musical. The VUE subs do both. I can lean into them and get massive amounts of bass, but they absolutely never lose their musicality. They even sound great at low volume.”
Stanley optimistic about the al-4’s ability to meet a range of line array applications. “The al-4 is so versatile and sonically accurate that I see it working well for everything from small one-man operations to street festivals and corporate events,” he concludes. “Overall I’m pretty confident that VUE products, particularly the line arrays, will play an increasingly bigger role in our business.”
