A top touring company in the U.S. is currently evaluating TDA (Time Domain Analysis), the first of its kind loudspeaker analysis software that provides access to loudspeaker and sound reinforcement system parameters that have been unobtainable—until now. And we’ll soon be presenting the touring company’s report on this new tool here as a Road Test review.
In the meantime, more about TDA software: Proprietary technology and new time domain analysis algorithms means that a sweep can be done in a matter of seconds. After this, the program automatically calculates accurate AFR, DFR, IR and TDA visualizations for use in loudspeaker and PA calibration from small systems up to major concert venues.
For touring engineers, TDA makes it simple to recalibrate a PA as well as quickly pinpoint damaged loudspeakers or system elements. It also allows fine tuning of crossover frequencies with extraordinary accuracy, resulting in greater sonic fidelity and higher max SPL. Logarithmic IR analyzing also provides invaluable information about the quality of loudspeaker elements.

TDA is the brainchild of Raimonds Skuruls, a long-time sound engineer and the founder/owner of Acoustic Power Lab. After more than three years of work, he received a patent for his new SPFR (sound/acoustic power frequency response) correction technology in 2005, and now this technology has patent coverage in the USA, Canada, Russia and other countries.
Pro Sound News Europe lists SPFR as one of the three leading innovations in the field in Europe, and subsequently it was awarded the Excellence prize by the Audio Engineering Society (AES) at a convention in New York.
