The new Fostex FM-4 4-channel field mixer joins the FM-3 in the manufacturer’s family of field mixers.

Fully featured to serve the needs of professional location sound situations, the FM-4 includes balanced 4-channel inputs (Mic/Line), two Main outputs, and two Sub outputs. Outputs feature high quality custom transformers and can double as 1-4 channel Direct Out (post-fader). A highly visible Organic EL display with high resolution metering offers both VU and Peak level in addition to mixer parameter status and remaining battery capacity.

Main output signals are tamable with on-board analog limiters that include threshold and ratio controls.  Additional outputs include Tape output and 2 x Aux outputs with channel select. Monitor return inputs are available for checking the audio from VTR or Camera feeds. Headphone outs are on standard and mini plugs (in parallel) and are selectable from multiple sources and PFL.

The chassis features light but robust aluminum body construction with exclusively-machined large aluminum faders, and metal axis fader pots use conductive plastic for higher durability. Master, Trim, HPF and EQ knobs have a pop-up mechanism to avoid inadvertent operations. Power comes from DC12-24V or internal 8 x AA batteries offering more than 6 hours operation with alkaline batteries (phantom off).

The FM-4’s High shelving EQ and Mid parametric EQ controls are selectable for ch1/3 and 2/4. Seamless PAN control and Fader Link function (1-2ch & 3-4ch).  The AUX input can be merged to the Stereo bus for cascade connection.
