As an industry leading theatrical supply house, Associated Theatrical Contractors (ATC) handles everything from scenic paint and gaffers tape to full theater rigging, lighting, and curtain installation. In short, this firm rents and sells it all.
A significant portion of the company’s business is costume design and fabrication, which can present some unique challenges when it comes to delivering the costumes to their clients.
To ensure the utmost protection for their clients’ wardrobe requirements, ATC recently invested in two Tour 8 Series wardrobe cases from Council Bluffs, IA-based Grundorf Corporation.
As ATC’s Artistic Director, it is Tim Midyett’s responsibility to understand their customers’ vision and to bring those visions to life. Hence, Midyett oversees the company’s scenic arts department, which is directly involved in the design and construction of set pieces, props, backdrops, and costumes for both rental and sales.
ATC’s new Tour 8 wardrobe cases offer secure protection for the costumes ATC creates and are shipped to destinations nationwide. Midyett discussed the decision to invest in Grundorf’s Tour 8 cases.
“We rent our costumes and equipment to a variety of organizations,” says Midyett. “We do business with schools, churches, theaters, convention centers—all types of organizations. Depending upon the nature of the production, the costumes can be very elaborate and, as a result, difficult to transport and protect. Our company has numerous Grundorf cases and the company’s custom design services make the process of getting properly designed and built transport cases quick and painless.”
Acquired in May, the new Grundorf Tour 8 cases resemble a closet on wheels and feature a removable side panel ‘lid’ as opposed to a hinged lid.
This ensures the contents of the case are both easy to remove and store.
“These cases are big enough to handle large costumes, yet small enough to fit into our company’s delivery vans,” Midyett explained. “Most importantly, they enable one to keep the costumes clean and safe during transport.”
“The Grundorf design team did a really great job for us. The fact that the cases are available in various colors also helps us keep our company’s branding consistent.”
Regardless of the type of case they’re looking for, Associated Theatrical Contractors knows they can get exactly what they require—effortlessly and in timely fashion—thanks to Grundorf’s responsive customer service.
“The Grundorf staff is consistently very helpful and responsive,” notes Midyett. “They make it easy to get exactly what you envision. Further, the Grundorf staff has always been very helpful and forthcoming with good advice.”
As owners of numerous Grundorf cases, Midyett summarized his experience with Grundorf Corporation, “The new Tour 8 cases are working out really well—exactly as we had hoped for. They’re tough, yet easy to move around and built to deliver a long product life, which makes them a solid business investment.”
“The company consistently meets and exceeds our expectations. With all our case purchases, we’ve had a very positive experience, so when it came time to purchase these two new cases, it was a ‘no brainer’ to continue doing business with Grundorf. They get it.”
