The new Alcons Audio LR7Bass
Alcons Audio is now shipping the LR7Bass, designed as a low-frequency extension of the LR7 micro pro-ribbon line-array system in both permanent and portable applications.
Featuring a single 12-inch long excursion woofer with neodymium magnet structure in bandpass loading configuration, the LR7B delivers high-quality, high-output bass response from a micro-sized and weight efficient package, measuring only three CDs wide by three CDs high.
The extended frequency response of the dual tuning enables the LR7B to be used as mid-bass reinforcement (80 Hz-160 Hz), full-range bass extension (45 Hz-160 Hz) or subwoofer (45 Hz-75 Hz) - all in both flown as well as stacked application.
Main attention was paid to the concentric band-pass configuration, consisting of 4 + 1 individual reflex vents in circular configuration, offering increased efficiency bass response in full-space (flown) and in half-space (stacked) applications.
Philip “Dr.Phil” de Haan, head of Alcons Audio R&D explains, “In order to optimize the response, reducing distortion even further, we designed a ‘reflex-vent muffler’ that dampens the reflex vent resonance induced in the lower-tuned ports. The result is a very clean low-mid and broad-band bass response with an RMS output of 124 dB.”
As weight was one of the critical design criteria, the cabinet is made of 15 mm/0.6 inch birch wood with clever bracing for a lightweight yet rigid construction. In combination with the 12-inch woofer’s neodymium magnet structure, the result is a total weight of only 19 kg /41.8 pounds, including all flying hardware.
The integrated three-point flying system matches the LR7’s Androgyn flying system, which can transform the asymmetrical cabinet into a symmetrical system, for optimal stereo response.
As in all Alcons’ systems, the Signal Integrity Sensing (SIS) pre-wiring ensures complete cable/connector compensation between the LR7B and ALC amplified-controller, for very tight and accurate bass response. This results in a specified damping factor of 10.000 at the loudspeaker terminals of the LR7B.
In order to deliver maximum sound quality and output power with dedicated and inaudible (power and excursion) protection (SDP circuit), the LR7Bass is to be used in combination with an ALC amplified loudspeaker controller.
The LR7B is finished with Alcons’ Durotect coating, comes with a six years limited warranty and is part of the The Ribbon Network inventory; Alcons’ global dry-hire network.
