On Monday evening, March 9, from 6 pm to 8 pm, the AES New York Section will host a behind-the-scenes tour of Le Poisson Rouge , a 21st century multimedia art cabaret equipped with a leading-edge sound system headed by Meyer Sound components.
Dedicated to the fusion of popular and art cultures in music, film, theater, dance, and fine art, Le Poisson Rouge has received extensive press coverage in The New York Times and other publications. Since opening in September, 2008, the club has presented such eclectic artists as Lou Reed, They Might Be Giants, John Zorn, Ronnie Spector, and Monteverdi’s opera The Coronation of Poppea.
Walters-Storyk Design Group project manager Joshua Morris and consultant David Kotch will describe key design elements such as multiple stage and audience configurations, and special acoustic treatments (e.g. studio-style sound lock construction to eliminate leakage from main performance room into lounge area).
Masque Sound co-principal Geoff Shearing and consultant David Kotch will detail the technology selection and installation of the sound system.
The system is based on self-powered loudspeakers and digital signal processing by Meyer Sound, and also includes equipment from Digidesign, Yamaha, and Shure. Meyer Sound Northeast Regional Sales Manager Sandy Macdonald, and Tech Support Joe Caruso will detail the technical advantages and unique elements of the system.
Further, a demonstration by Le Poisson Rouge Front Of House Engineer Richie Clarke will illustrate the power, flexibility, and clarity of the system, which is used for recording as well as live performance applications. Club co-principal David Handler will discuss the creative principals that led him and partner Justin Kantor to the decision to create this showplace venue.
